Cape Town - The Caledon community is reeling following the murder of a young woman allegedly by her former partner.
The body of 28-year-old Dimpho Skelenge was discovered with stab wounds on Tuesday morning. It is alleged that for the past six months, Skelenge has been living in fear because her ex-boyfriend refused to accept that their relationship was over.
She moved from Ashton to Caledon where she started a new job two months ago. The man followed her and allegedly killed her.
“Dimpho wanted to get out of that relationship,” said the deceased's older brother, Sonwabile.
“He abused her, then on Monday he came with flowers and wine to apologise. When that did not work out, he killed her. We are still shocked, Dimpho had a bright future ahead of her and she recently started working.”
Sonwabile said the police arrested the suspect only after they intervened.
“We have proof and everything. Not a single officer came to us. The guy confessed to his colleague and he already packed his belongings, preparing to run.”
The suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in court on Friday.
“I still cannot believe it,” said the deceased’s best friend, Thembela Sifile.
“I last had a chat with her on Monday. The guy first poisoned and then stabbed her a number of times. Her family was happy that she found a new job in a different place, but now she is no more.”
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said the circumstances surrounding the death of a 28-year-old female in Tortelduif Street, Uitsig, Caledon are under investigation.
“According to reports, the victim sustained stab wounds to the body. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by paramedics. A murder case was registered for investigation. The unknown suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.”
