Durban — Southern and central parts of eThekwini are expected to be affected by a planned interruption of water supply for 11 hours on Tuesday.

In a public notice, the eThekwini Municipality alerted the public of a planned interruption of water supply in the areas supplied by the South Coast Augmentation Pipeline. Affected areas include parts of central and southern regions.

“The planned interruption is aimed at completing maintenance of the electrical medium voltage new South Coast Augmentation booster pump station,” the municipality said.

“Maintenance work will commence on Tuesday, October 1 from 5am to 4pm.”

Meanwhile, in a media and public notice on Facebook, uMngeni-uThukela Water announced the postponement of a planned 12-hour water supply interruption from the Lower uThukela Water Treatment Works due to bad weather.

The 12-hour shutdown was planned for Tuesday, October 1.

“The new date for the shutdown is now Thursday, October 3. The shutdown will commence at 6am until 6pm,” uMngeni-uThukela Water said.

“This is to replace a malfunctioning isolation valve and to also scour the pipeline.”

The water entity said the following areas under the Ilembe District will be affected by water supply interruptions while the maintenance work is in progress: Zinkwazi, San Sounci, Darnall, Lindelani, Nonoti, Blythedale, Saunders Reservoir, Glenhills, Warrenton, Stanger Manor, High Ridge, Shakaville, Townview, Mbozamo, Honolulu Reservoir and Groutville, Ntshawini and Melville.

“We apologise for any disruption that will be caused during the maintenance work.”
