Orlando Pirates' Multichoice Diski Challenge (MDC) coach Joseph Makhanya says he would like to see Relebohile Mofokeng achieving his dreams of playing in Europe as the youngster continues to be linked with Spanish giants Barcelona.
Earlier this week, a sensational Soccer Laduma report claimed that Barca had been asking about Mofokeng, who has made a fast start to life in South Africa's top flight since making his debut for the Sea Robbers.
He has continued to impress again this season, and has built a solid partnership with fellow 20-year-old Mohau Nkota, and currently has four goal contributions to his name in all competitions.
Along with Barcelona, Scottish powerhouse Glasgow Rangers as well as Austria's RB Salzburg have also reportedly thrown their names into the hat of clubs chasing Mofokeng's signature.
Makhanya, who played a big role in his development, said he would like to see Mofokeng following his dreams and sealing a move to Europe.
“What I can say is that there has never been a time to say someone is ready or not for a big move to Europe. It has to happen so that we can see if they are ready,” Makhanya told FARPost.
“But I think the team will make the right call for them because that’s what we wish to see for them as coaches from the development side.
“We want to see him succeed and fulfil his dreams of playing abroad, which is something we didn’t do while playing, to play in Europe. Now I would want a player I have coached to play for a big team like Barcelona, maybe Rangers in Scotland as the rumours say.
“But also for Pirates, it has to make business sense. The move must ensure the player makes progress, and once the player progresses, it means the nation also gets to benefit."
