Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has identified the type of players the club need to sign as they look to get back among the elite of South African football.

In recent years, Chiefs have been in the doldrums. The club have not won a trophy in almost a decade, and last season, they finished outside of the top 8 for the first time ever in the PSL era.

Under Nabi, there have been signs of improvement, but recent results have shown that a lot of work needs to be done to get the club.

On Monday, Ranga Chivaviro scored a late goal as Chiefs drew their Betway Premiership match against TS Galaxt 1-1, earning them a point. Despite being the better team and creating more goalscoring opportunities for much of the game, Nabi’s men were not able to put their opponents away.

Both Chivaviro and Ashley du Preez were guilty of missing clearcut chances, and will have frustrated the coach.

Speaking to SuperSport after the draw, Nabi said that while there are good footballers at the club, they lacked a certain type of player to help them change games.

“It’s true that we feel up top we have the same kind of players – players who like to dribble, who like to play short spaces,” Tunisian Nabi said after the game.

“But we lack a little bit of power, we lack the type of players who can shoot, who can make decisions.

“We need to get those kind of players in the future. You know the level of Kaizer Chiefs, I want to play the level of Kaizer Chiefs.”
