DURBAN - In the professional realm of rugby, it is easy to forget that it is still just a game, and one that is meant to be an enjoyable one for those involved. For Sharks fullback Curwin Bosch, his focus as the Currie Cup campaign gets up and going is to simply enjoy it.
Bosch says that his best rugby comes when he is enjoying his rugby, and that is the key to his success, as well as his Springbok aspirations. Currently, the talented youngster is very much on the fringes of Bok selection, but he hopes that, along with his enjoyment for the game, that will change.
“I play my best rugby when I am enjoying it, and I do think I have lost a bit of that towards the end of Super Rugby, so the big emphasis is on myself to enjoy my rugby again,” Bosch said.
The fullback also said that while he has Bok aspirations, his focus is on helping the Sharks to glory, which he believes will have an added benefit come national selection time. “At the end of the day, I think all of us want to play for the Boks, but for me, the most important thing is to firstly help the Sharks to do well in the Currie Cup, and then for me to just enjoy my rugby.”
Bosch believes that if the Sharks can be successful in the Currie Cup, there is a much better chance that he, as well as a few others who are on the fringes, can make it back into the national set up.
“If you look at the previous times when guys have been selected for the Boks, it is usually when your province is doing well, so most of the guys have realised that, but personally I don’t put a lot of pressure on myself, I want to enjoy my rugby and if it is meant to be, it will come, you just have to work hard and enjoy the rugby,” Bosch added. “But the Sharks have to do well for us to achieve our Bok goals, we will put the team first and the rest will follow.”
The Sharks next take on the Cheetahs who have their attention divided as the Pro 14 kicks off. They will be playing on two fronts with the Currie Cup very much their secondary focus. This could help the Sharks to a second consecutive victory, but as it is away in Bloemfontein, nothing should be taken for granted.
