Johannesurg – Warriors allrounder Simon Harmer has been banned for one match after the use of bad language in a Twenty20 match, Cricket SA said on Tuesday.
“It is important that an effective penalty be imposed ... to correct behaviour,” CSA disciplinary commissioner Rian Cloete said in a statement.
“In the circumstances, I am satisfied that the appropriate penalty in respect of this offence is a suspension for one four-day match, but without the need, in addition, to impose a fine.”
Harmer was called to a disciplinary hearing after an incident occurred in a franchise match against the Dolphins in Port Elizabeth on January 17.
He was charged under clause 6.3.1 (f) - Level 2 of the CSA Code of Conduct: use of language that was serious obscene, offensive or insulting to an umpire. Harmer pleaded guilty.
Harmer would miss the Warriors' four-day game against the Highveld Lions which starts on Thursday in Port Elizabeth. – Sapa
