A maiden first-class century by Wayne Parnell followed by a polished bowling display by the Cape Cobras helped them complete an innings and 12-run victory over the Warriors on day three of their Sunfoil Series clash in Paarl on Saturday.

The Proteas’ all-rounder struck an unbeaten 111 (146 balls, 20 fours, 1 six), beating his previous highest score of 91 that was scored in three-day cricket, as the hosts moved from their overnight 352/8 to 404 all out at Boland Park.

It was then the turn of the bowlers, who had the luxury of a 187 first-innings lead to work with.

And Dane Piedt starred with the ball by taking 4/63 as the visitors were shot out for a woeful 175. The South Africa spinner ended with 8/138 in the match.

There were also wickets for Beuran Hendricks (3/20) and Tshepo Moreki (2/23) with the Warriors dismissed in just 57.4 overs

Jon-Jon Smuts top-scored for his side with 61 (113 balls, 7 fours), but there was little in terms of support from the Warriors’ batsmen, who suffered a second successive innings loss.

Defeat was also their sixth in seven matches in 2015/16 and left them firmly rooted to the bottom of the table, while the Cobras temporarily shoot above the Sunfoil Dolphins into fourth place. - Cricket South Africa
