Johannesburg - A knock of 142 unbeaten from Justin Ontong helped the Cobras post 247 in their first innings against the Knights in their domestic four day match, in Kimberley on Thursday.
The Cobras had fallen to 10 for three inside the first nine overs, before Ontong and Yaseen Vallie rescued the visitors with a 116-run fourth wicket partnership.
The stand was broken when Vallie was out for 50, caught off the bowling of Werner Coetsee. Ontong carried on undeterred, though wickets kept falling for the Cobras.
Robin Peterson chipped in with 18 as he and Ontong shared in a 69 run stand for the seventh wicket. Again Coetsee made the breakthrough, and the last three wickets for the Cobras fell for 12 runs as they were bowled out for under 250.
Quinton Friend was the pick of the bowlers for the Knights as he returned 4/25 in 16 overs.
At the close of play, the Knights were 19 without loss with Reeza Hendricks (13) and Gihahn Cloete (5) at the wicket.
In Port Elizabeth, Lions bowlers Hardus Viljoen and Cliffe Deacon rocked the Warriors lineup as the hosts were bowled out for 284 on day one.
Viljoen claimed figures of 6/92 while Deacon returned 4/46 as the two Lions bowlers split the ten Warriors wickets between them.
The Warriors fell to 18 for three, but opener Michael Price batted for 66 overs before he was out to Viljoen three short of his century.
Colin Ingram contributed with 23, but it was an unbeaten innings of 102 from Ryan Bailey at number six which steadied the Warriors.
Viljoen, however, had the final say with wickets down the order as the home side were bowled out shortly before the close of play.
The Lions did manage to lose a wicket before stumps as opener Stephen Cook departed for a duck, bowled by Andrew Birch as the visitors were left none for one in the first over.
In Benoni, play was abandoned for the day before a ball was bowled in the match between the Titans and the Dolphins. A wet outfield made any hopes of play impossible following heavy rains in recent days in the area.
