Vaughn van Jaarsveld and Kyle Nipper both starred in a clinical display by the Dolphins as they surged to the top of the Momentum One-Day Cup standings with a thumping seven-wicket win over the Knights in Bloemfontein on Wednesday.
First, slow left-armer Nipper recorded an excellent spell of 9.1 overs in which he claimed 4/32 as the hosts were shot out for 171 with almost 10 overs to spare, before Van Jaasrsveld led the visitors cruised home with more than 20 overs remaining.
The opener plundered 71 from just 47 balls (12x4) and shared in a first-wicket stand of 103 runs with Morne van Wyk (33) to set the Dolphins on their way.
Captain, Khaya Zondo finished things off with a brisk 43 (34 balls, 7x4, 1x6) to ensure the KwaZulu-Natal side took a full five points from the fixture and move to the summit of the log.
Earlier, the Knights were left in a spin by the visiting bowlers, with nine of their wickets falling to the slow bowlers.
Nipper was the chief destroyer after Robbie Frylink (1/15) made the initial breakthrough. Another left-armer in Senuran Muthusamy claimed 2/40, Prenelan Subrayen picked up 2/26 with his off-breaks and the skipper Zondo managed 1/16.
Pite van Biljon top-scored with 42, but his side’s poor batting proved costly as the Dolphins made it three wins out of four.
