Neil Mckenzie assisted coach JP Potgieter in a training session at Laerskool Louw Geldenhuys, the Gauteng winners of the KFC Mini-Cricket kids vs Proteas tour match. JP Potgieter is the U8 KFC Mini-Cricket coach for the school and he ran the training session and gave Neil tasks to perform to make sure that the training session ran smoothly and the kids kept up to their high standards of training even though they were in a presents of a cricketing legend.
This was the first part of the prize that Eldre Benadie, a grade 1 teacher at the school, won for the kids. The next part of the prize is that the KFC Mini-Cricket kids will meet some of Neils team mates and their heroes from the Gauteng Lions at the Wanderers and play in a curtain raiser prior to the main Ram Slam T20 challenge match where the Lions take on the Cobras.
KFC are doing this to get kids active through cricket and to help the kids meet their cricketing heroes.
Coach Eldre Benadie said: ’It is an honour and a privilege to get Neil McKenzie to assist JP with the coaching session. It will do amazing things to boost the kids confidence and increase their interest in cricket. I watched how they trained under Neil and JPs’ watchful eyes and i have already seen an improvement in their play. They will be ready to take on the Gauteng Lions on the 14th and I believe that they have a chance in beating them.”
