Johannesburg - An innings of 149 from Dane Vilas helped the Cobras to a mammoth 544 in their first innings against the Lions on day two of their domestic four-day match at the Wanderers on Friday.
At the close of play, the Lions were 111 for one, still trailing the visitors by 433 with two days left to play.
At the wicket were Rassie van der Dussen (68) and Temba Bavuma (20).
For the Lions, Stephen Cook (19) was the only batsman to lose his wicket as he was out lbw to Justin Kemp.
But the plaudits on the day belonged to the Cobras batsmen.
Vilas and Dane Piedt (92) took the game away from the hosts in the morning session, resuming on their overnight total of 322 for seven.
Vilas notched up his first century of the season as the visitors plundered 139 runs for no wicket in the morning.
After lunch, the onslaught continued even after Vilas fell for one short of 150. Lions spinner Eddie Leie found the edge of Vilas's bat and keeper Sizwe Masondo took the catch.
The breakthrough ended a record 155-run eighth-wicket partnership at the Wanderers by the pair.
Piedt continued to pile on the runs as he bettered his previous first-class highest score of 60.
The number nine batsman was eventually dismissed eight short of what would have been his maiden century, as he skied a Leie delivery and was caught by Hardus Viljoen.
At Centurion, the Titans posted 353 all out in their first innings against the Warriors.
The hosts continued from their precarious position of 268 for six overnight, and after Titans batsman Cobus Pienaar added the two runs he needed to reach 50, he was out to Andrew Birch. The Warriors bowler had Pienaar caught by Simon Harmer as the Titans lost their seventh wicket on 271.
David Wiese added 40 runs to his total before he was caught behind for 46 off the bowling of Thandolwethu Mnyaka.
Basheeru-Deen Walters ended with the best figures for the Warriors with 4/67 in 27 overs.
The Warriors came in to bat, and were soon in trouble at 33 for two.
David White (85) and JJ Smuts (20) put on 60 for the third wicket. Shaun von Berg struck to remove Smuts trapped in front.
Wiese then had White out lbw as the Warriors lost their fourth on 135.
The wickets of Ryan Bailey (17), Simon Harmer (3), Athenkosi Dyili (0) and Andrew Birch (0) fell in quick succession to leave the visitors reeling on 156.
At the close of play, the Warriors were 165 for eight.
Wiese ended the day with figures of 3/26.
In Bloemfontein, the Dolphins made 564 for seven declared in their first innings against the Knights.
Khaya Zondo (119) and Cody Chetty (54) put together a 102-run third-wicket partnership to move the game forward.
Chetty was out, bowled Dean Elgar, and Zondo followed shortly thereafter, bowled by Malusi Siboto.
Daryn Smit added a quick-fire 69 off 95 balls to keep the scoring rate up, and the Dolphins eventually decided that a score in excess of 550 was enough.
The Knights responded by reaching the close of play on 105 without loss, with openers Reeza Hendricks (57) and Gihahn Cloete (42) at the crease.
