On May 21, Peter Maskell Auctioneers will sell two well-positioned smallholdings in Vryheid.

On offer in the liquidation action will be two portions of the farm, Eensgevonden, about 3km from the central part of town, and located off the R33 regional road. Vryheid is about 320km north of Durban.

Danielle Hoskins, who is handling the auction for Maskells, says Portion 16, a 20ha portion of the farm, has on site:

* Main house with three bedrooms, kitchen, open-plan lounge/dining room and bathroom.

* Two-roomed open-plan offices with kitchen, ablutions, three undercover garages and carport.

* Shed.

* Compound.

The second smallholding (Portion 31) covers an area of over 9ha and has two houses - one with four bedrooms and the other with two bedrooms and a shed.

Both immovable and movable assets of the two smallholdings will be auctioned.

The economy of Vryheid is largely centred around coal mining and cattle ranching. Historical figures who lived in the town range from the first president of the Union of South Africa Louis Botha, to rugby stars Ruan Combrinck, Thys Lourens and Joe Pietersen.
