The oil on canvas - one of 80 paintings to come under the hammer - is expected to fetch between R400000 and R600000.
Interest in acquiring Tretchikoff’s work has escalated in the 21st century, with the artist once mocked as the “King of Kitsch” now very much part of the investing-in-art trend. The most expensive Tretchikoff painting to date is Chinese Girl, which went for nearly £1million at Bonhams, London, in 2013.
The artist’s previous record was Red Jacket, which fetched £337250 in October 2012, also at Bonhams.
Tretchikoff, who was never fazed about the lack of peer praise for his work during his lifetime, once jokingly said that the only difference between him and Vincent Van Gogh was that the latter died poor.
Although never selling his work for millions while still alive Tretchikoff, who died in Cape Town in 2006, made so much money out of prints of his work that he was once regarded as the richest artist after Picasso.
