PropertyResidentialTip of the week: Start your summer to-do list nowPublished Sep 22, 2018ShareI promised some ideas about tasksto get stuck into now that spring is here. The first major point to remember is that fixing what went wrong during winter is cheaper in spring or summer. Too often we leave those pesky leaks or other problems unattended until the start of next winter, when contractors are busy again and pushing up their prices. The second thing to do is to check all your tools and fittings that have not been used during autumn and winter. This includes outside taps and sprinkler systems, lawn mowers and so on.For those with air-conditioners, have them checked and serviced so you don’t break out in a panic sweat when you want to be cool.Check what damage the winter storms have done to your external windows and doors. As temperatures rise, putty will start to loosen and cracks will widen. After checking that your ladder is in good working order and safe to use, get up and clean out the gutters. Rubbish deposited in them during winter will form a breeding ground for seeds to germinate, and before you know it you will have gardens growing in the gutters, which apart from adding weight will cause other damage as they grow.I will continue with this list next week.*Handy Mac, aka Don MacAlister, is our expert on household DIY issues.
