The woman with rats in her roof had me thinking about keeping nasties out of your roof void.
This becomes more necessary as the seasons change when many animals we see frolicking in our gardens are starting to look for somewhere cosy to hunker down for winter.
Not only do squirrels, birds, rats and so on cause damage themselves they bring with them smaller nasties, such as lice, which can be a bigger problem. Now is the time to ensure you are not giving unwelcome visitors easy access into your roof. Ensure you don’t have branches hanging over your roof, giving squirrels an easy path.
Also, in a strong wind, branches can damage your roof covering. Check there is no easy way into the void.
Get into the void, close the trapdoor and sit in the dark to see where light is coming in. Decide on the best way to block these access points. It is better to prevent access to the roof void rather than to have to call in exterminators.
