At its next multi-property auction, on July 30 at 11am at the Durban Country Club, Aucor Property will call for bids for a small shopping centre in KwaMashu, as well as two flats near the Durban beach front.

The retail centre at 98 Bhungezi Road in KwaMashu’s “Section M” is ready for occupation and partially occupied.

Tenants include a butchery, beauty salon, ice manufacturer and a tavern. There is space at the back of the building to accommodate more tenants with ample on-site parking and ablutions already in place.

Rona Pillay, handling the sale for Aucor, says the single-storey building on a 3500m² plot has excellent road frontage exposure with high volumes of passing vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

“The investment potential is high, although the property does require some renovation and maintenance,”

KwaMashu, about 20km north of Durban, was named after Sir Marshall Campbell, who owned the land where the settlement was originally established in 1959, and the name means “Place of Marshall” in Zulu. Campbell was a pioneer of the sugar industry in what was then the Natal Colony and the MP concerned with affairs regarding the black population. The “township” is bordered by Newlands, Ntuzuma, Phoenix and Mount Edgecombe.

KwaMashu has a lively performing arts scene which particularly showcases the talents of its young community. There are many primary and high schools in the area which, according to the KZN Department of Health, has a population of 750000. It is served by extensive medical facilities.

The Durban section title flats on offer at Tuesday’s sale are:

* Flat 12 High Wycombe at 5 Serridge Street, North Beach. The three-bedroom unit on the first floor has sea views from all bedrooms and the lounge and has its own prayer room.

* Flat 21 Ottawa Court at 110 Gillespie Street, near South Beach. This is a 1.5-bedroom (bedroom and enclosed balcony) compact unit.
