The old Durban Sands Hotel on South Beach, the former Illovo Sugar headquarters in Illovo, and an architectural landmark building in the heart of Durban are three historic properties on offer at In2Assets auctions at the Durban Country Club on July 24.

There are 53 apartments to be auctioned individually or as a combined lot in the high-rise 10 South/Durban Sands, which in its heyday was the well-known Durban Sands Hotel.

The accommodation consists of studio apartments, as well as one- and two-bedroom units, a communal entertainment area, and communal leisure facilities that include a swimming pool and squash courts. Located about 150m from South Beach promenade, the block has sea views and secure covered parking.

The building occupies a large site, with four street frontages onto Gillespie, Rutherford, and Hitchins streets and Sturdeen Place.

Located at the south-eastern periphery of Durban’s CBD, the property is close to public transport facilities and other amenities with some of the larger developments in the immediate vicinity including Holiday Inn South Beach (Garden Court), Tropicana Hotel, The Durban Spa and The Wheel.

The apartment block will be auctioned at 2pm.

Earlier, also at the Durban Country Club, In2Assets will call for bids for a four-storey landmark building at 105 Dr Pixley Kaseme (West) Street which offers 3 000m² of student accommodation. The well-maintained property comprises four spacious retail outlets, administration offices, the entrance foyer to the residential accommodation and access to the ramp. The first and second floors have 65 rooms that sleep one to three students, accommodating 118 students in total. The third floor features two two-bedroom penthouse flats.

This sale is scheduled for 11am at the Durban Country Club when the old headquarters of Illovo Sugar in Illovo will also be auctioned.

Now known as Illovo Business Park, the 57 000m² property has a gross building area of nearly 15 000m² and comprises warehouses, factories, office blocks, workshops, 95 self-storage units and ample yard space.
