PRETORIA: Our insider's guide to Wonderboom South

Overall, Wonderboom South is a safe area to invest in and well-recommended, says Eugene Van Wyk, principal of Pretoria Moot Properties, who lists a number of factors.

Firstly, the availability of good schools in and around the area means that demand will always stay at a premium. These schools include Laërskool Wonderboom Suid, Laërskool Boerefort and Hoërskool Wonderboom, all of which are within a 1.5km radius of the suburb.

There’s no space for development and demand is not affected by the economic downturn.

Proximity to tertiary institutions such as the University of Pretoria and TUT means that families can stay here for the duration of their children’s education.

Other essential amenities nearby include Gezina City and Wonderboom Junction, to name only a few, notes Van Wyk. Secondly, Wonderboom South is part of Pretoria Moot, comprising 35 distinct suburbs in a mega residential neighbourhood regarded to have the lowest crime rate in Tshwane.

Because of this and other factors, sales have stayed buoyant in a challenging market, observes Van Wyk. For instance, Lightstone records show 168 property transfers were recorded for the suburb for the year ending November 2018.

Homes closer to the mountainside tend to be more sought-after, according to Van Wyk. “De Beer Street and Lombard Street are a fraction more expensive than the rest of the area because they are against the mountain,” he observes.

Property values here are the same as those for Rietfontein.

Wonderboom South is quite central, allowing for easy access to Montana over the Magaliesberg. I work in Waverley about 6km from home and it’s fairly easy to get to and from

work. My two children attend school in Waverley, although there are good schools in Wonderboom South itself. Wonderboom Junction and Mayville Mall are close by. - Robin van der Walt, resident
