The handbook used by American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin for their historic moon landing 50 years ago is expected to fetch at least $9million (more than R129m) when it comes under the Christie’s hammer as part of a major auction to be held on July 18 at Christie’s in New York.

Announcing the auction, Christie’s says the Timeline Book from 1969 is the most important manual used to accomplish the goal of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to earth.

Among other memorabilia of the historic lunar mission on auction will be a signed photograph of Armstrong aboard a lunar module simulator. Armstrong died in 2012 at the age of 82.
