As the eyes of the world focus on the FNB Stadium in Joburg for the Global Citizen Concert in celebration of the centenary of former president Rolihlahla Nelson Mandela, an inaugural event hosted by the House of Mandela Family Foundation, Enhle Cares Foundation and Africa Rising Foundation will become an annual fund-raiser for the charitable work the Nobel Peace Laureate held most dear.

The Forever Young Ball and Gala Dinner and auction, in Houghton on November 30, forms part of the official Mandela 100 programme. The ball and dinner will pay tribute to the legacy of Mandela and, via an auction on the night, raise funds for food security, community development, empowering women and the youth and championing social justice issues.

Joff van Reenen, of High Street Auctions, who will lead the fund-raising component, says the auction will include an original colour pastel drawing by Mandela from the family collection.

“Among the lots will be previously unseen pieces from the Mandela family collection.”

The fund-raising will comprise a silent auction, Mandela’s Moment of Giving and a live auction.
