The latest data on euro-zone property shows Malta is the top performer in the region. It is also the top offshore property investment destination for South Africans and the leading choice for euro-zone residency and citizenship, says Lance Cohen, a director at Seeff Atlantic Seaboard who markets Malta property.

Furthermore, Malta is the first European country where one can get citizenship, rather than just residency. English is widely used in business.

There are essentially two aspects to the Malta promotion in South Africa, one of which is to invest in property without residency or citizenship, purely for investment or second home purposes.

“Malta property market offers excellent prospects and you can find property from just R3 million to R4m, far less than what you would pay for a holiday apartment on the Atlantic Seaboard.”

Property values continue to appreciate, Cohen says, and Malta boasts a busy rental market.
