Mac seeks advice

There is seldom a dull moment in the MacAlister household as Mrs Mac continues to seek perfection. This week she has me tackling a problem with more turtle doves attempting to nest under our enclosed stoep.

We’ve had two sets of chicks hatch, with all the stress that goes with it, including keeping the dogs away. Now the chicks have gone and the nests have been cleared, but the doves continue to perch on the beams despite our two Scotties trying to “bark” them away.

While celebrating National Bird Day, these doves have caused us quite a bit of distress.Last week I tried installing hanging reflectors made from old CDs, but the doves ignore them.

We are also experiencing problems with mosquitoes. Mrs Mac has become the main target so I have to find a solution. I will attempt to rewire our insect killer, if the lead is long enough to hang it under the eaves outside our bedroom window. I would very much welcome advice on how to deal with either problem.
