Joff van Reenen, director of South African auction company, High Street Auctions, has been invited to be South African ambassador to the National Association of Auctioneering (NAA), one of the world’s largest professional auctioneering bodies with headquarters in Kansas, in the US.

Van Reenen is a long-standing board member of the South African Institute of Auctioneers (SAIA), which was founded in 1989 to provide industry standards that promote ethical practices in the auctioneering profession. SAIA is a member of the NAA.

The appointment of a national ambassador to the NAA comes after a visit to South Africa by NAA President, Tim Mast, who says the industry is enjoying growth globally.

“Auctions’ momentum is increasing This will have a ripple effect across other global markets in the medium term, including South Africa. But one shouldn’t view the auction industry merely in terms of growth. There is now so much change on a global scale that it makes more sense to think about the industry as shifting and changing with the world economy and the technological environment,” he said.
