Three paintings by South Africa’s acclaimed Pietermaritzburg-born artist Errol Boyley will be among the top attractions at Cannon & Cannon’s auction of antiques and collectables in Hilton on Tuesday.

The sale starts at 9am at the Cannon premises in Quarry Centre with viewing July 28 from 9am to 1pm and July 29 from 8am to 1pm.

The Boyley works, which are all expected to fetch up to R60000, are:

* Midlands Farm Scene.

* Imbezane River, Southbroom.

* Cape Dutch Homestead Nestled Among Trees.

Mainly self-taught, Boyley was born in 1918 and died in the KZN capital in 2007. He spent about 20 years living and working in Ramsgate.

Known for his oil landscapes, he is also widely recognised as one of South Africa’s greatest painters of contemporary realism in portrayals of still life, seascapes, wildlife and figures.

Another two paintings likely to attract strong bidding at the sale are Chris Tugwell’s Landscape with Homestead in the Background, which has a top presale estimate of R30000, and George Enslin’s Dwellings on a Hillside, which is expected to fetch up to R20000.

There are also jewellery items, as well as a selection of collectables catalogued.
