Two properties - a private game reserve and an 83ha farm - near Ladismith in the Klein Karoo will be sold on auction on December 19.

The 250ha private game reserve, Den Vlier, is 17km from Ladismith, says Tanya Jovanovski, franchisee of Rawson Auctions Western Cape.

“The game reserve includes a two-bedroom house with a splash pool that overlooks the farm.

"The property also offers a camping area with a kitchen and ablution facilities, and access to hiking trails,” she says.

Other features include a battery room for solar power, a boma at the house and camping area, a natural waterfall during the rainy season; and a solar and wind pump for electricity and water tanks.

“South African game, such as leopards, gemsbuck, kudu and springbok, will be included in the sale,” Jovanovski says.

The second property, Plaas Tierkop, is a farm surrounded by mountains.

The site includes a well-constructed industrial factory; a newly renovated, double-storey, five-bedroom house; a four-bedroom house built in 1910; and a luxurious, one-bedroom New York-style loft apartment.

Jovanovski says other buildings include two stables that can each house two horses, a small storeroom and three labourers’ cottages, each with three rooms.

Ladismith, an extensive farming area, has an ideal climate for the production of apricots, peaches, plums, nectarines, figs, pomegranates, olives and grapes, she says.

“There are two cheese factories and a winery nearby, so Tierkop farm lends itself to being converted into an industrial operation.”

If tourism should pique the interest of the buyer, the property is well positioned to attract attention from visitors to the R62, the longest wine route in the Cape.

“The farm could be developed as a guest farm or a roadside diner for the thriving tourist market,” she suggests.

Farming equipment and implements will be included in the sale and a list of these items can be made available upon request.

Both properties will be auctioned at noon on December 19 at the Rawson Property Group’s head office at 222 Main Road, Rondebosch.
