Kinky lots draw the crowds

Cannons Auctioneers of Hilton achieved some impressive prices at its sale of collectables, art and antiques last Tuesday when the lots included an unusual amount of erotica.

“The attendance was exceptional with big crowds throughout the day,” Noelene Cannon says. “There were quite a few new faces around.”

Considering the lots included a barely-clad dominatrix wielding a cane, as well as naughty netsukes, that’s not surprising. The netsukes fetched R5000 per lot, but the art deco figurine of the fierce female only R2 800 - displaying it at home could be a problem, one supposes - while the collection of erotica books drew a final bid of R1000.

Highlights of the more traditional lots on offer were:

* George III silver-lid tankard sold for R25 500.

* An 151-piece, assembled collection of solid silver King’s Pattern cutlery sold for R39 000.
