Hundreds of lots to lure collectors to Church Street

There will be about 350 lots on offer at Ashbey’s Galleries’ auction of fine and decorative arts, antiques, watches and jewellery at 43 Church Street, Cape Town, on September 19 at 10am, with bidding also available on Ashbey’s online platform.

* 19th century four-piece Russian silver and gilt tea and coffee set dating back to 1870 (opening bid will be R45000).

* Chinese three-piece tea set and tray, stamped “Luen-Wo” (R40000).

* Three-piece garniture set with candelabrum and candlesticks (R25000).

* Edwardian four-piece tea and coffee service from Sheffield (R22000).

* Four-piece Continental silver tea and coffee set by Baltensperger (R22000).

* George VI salver on four feet, made in London in 1932 (R10000);

* Pair of George IV salvers by Edward Farrell, London, 1824 (R15000).

* Cutlery set of 61 pieces of flatware (R15000).

A soprano saxophone dating back to 1914 will have an opening bid of R20000 and an exquisite 14ct yellow gold, pearl, ruby, diamond and emerald necklace will have a R25000 starting bid.

Other items include Rolex and Eterna watches; an 18ct yellow-gold ring; works of local and overseas art, including two Anton van Wouw bronze busts; pieces of antique furniture - including Cape furniture - and mirrors.
