In an unusual promotional stunt, the Taylor assets will also be shown in a special Queen Mary 2 trans-Atlantic voyage from the UK to the US prior to the sale in California. Julien’s and Cunard have taken Taylor’s collection to the seas in an auction exhibition during the seven-day voyage from Southampton to New York,arriving in the US on October 25.

On offer at the auction will be a collection of Taylor’s iconic fashions, film costumes and accessories by designers Christian Dior, Edith Head, Gucci, Valentino, Versace and Yves Saint Laurent. Jewellery, wigs, fine/decorative art and household items from Taylor’s homes and life will also go under the hammer.

Highlights include an evening gown designed by MGM design guru Edith Head and worn by Taylor to the 1974 Oscars ceremony.

Taylor died in 2011 at the age of 79 after a lifetime plagued by several serious illnesses.
