Bloemfontein is one city losing residents, says Century21’s principal in the area, Jo van Zyl.

Free State has also seen its share of semigrants over the years, mainly parents of students and business people from smaller towns.

From a property perspective, Bloemfontein appears to be losing residents. “Our metro is under extreme financial strain. People are moving to areas with stronger economies.”

Those who are relocating from Free State are going to the Western Cape for its well-managed areas and attractions and Gauteng for work opportunities.

This year, Van Zyl predicts the Garden Route and Port Elizabeth will be popular destinations for semigrants.
