Improving the aesthetic impact and market value of your home requires careful thought and a clear direction but will benefit homeowners looking to sell their properties or simply increase their value.

Improving your property’s security is a given when doing any home improvements, Greeff says. Security is becoming increasingly important in communities and neighbourhoods. “Improve the value on your property by installing electrified fencing, automated gates and a quality alarm system.
Cosmetic adaptations:
Inside your home, there might be additions you feel are immediately necessary in order to improve the value of your property but looking at your kitchen and bathrooms as primary areas of focus is a good place to start, Greeff says. “Taking care of grime and mould is a great first point of call.
“Additional changes to consider include looking at the replacement of doors; handles; cleaning off scuff marks; hinges on cupboards and details on cabinetry, all of which are minor cosmetic improvements which can do a lot to influence the value of your property,” he says. Should you choose to sell at a later stage, cosmetic changes could work in your favour in terms of price, he adds.

Exterior improvements:
A lot can be said for first impressions, so the exterior of your property can make either a positive or negative first impression. If the impression is too negative, people might not even go inside. “Add further value to your property by taking small steps to ensure the appearance of your property is in tip-top shape. “Examine your landscaping, whether there needs to be trimming, cutting, planting or repairs done.
“A fresh coat of paint makes a considerable difference to the appearance of the property and definitely increases kerb appeal,” Greeff says. Paying careful attention to the condition of your windows is also vital. You can start by repairing any glazing that is damaged or doesn’t seal properly.
“Nobody wants to buy a house with windows that are not in top condition.” Greeff adds that prospective homebuyers look at the main traffic areas in a home when visiting for the first time, so homeowners should keep these areas in pristine condition.
“Home improvements are a proven method of increasing property value and are not in any way a waste of your hard-earned money. “They are an important part of ensuring your property fetches a higher resale value once you are ready to put it on the market,” he says.
