Feedback: Solar water heating is hot subject

It is always great to receive positive feedback when I have offered advice or recommended somebody or something. Lilian is very happy. I had to write to say a very big thank you for referring David Rich.

This morning I

finally had a comforting shower

and must say I found David efficient and proficient. I requested his business card and will only contact him for plumbing repairs. This was a lesson learned, and an expensive one.

Neil sent me figures on savings from using a solar water heater. I seem to recall you were asking about the efficiency of solar water heating a few weeks ago. I have attached a detailed schedule I kept before installing a solar system in September 2010. As you can see, the price per unit has risen from 47c to more than R2.

I seem to be saving about 5 000 units a year, on average, which at current prices is more than R10 000 a year. Unfortunately we have underfloor heating which my wife insists on using in winter and this accounts for the spike in the middle of the year. You will see from Joan’s question in the column that I have linked up with my old friend Jacques.

He will be coming to our home to quote for solar and to go through the whole technical side with me. I will pass on this information through the column.
