Ian Wyles Auctioneers will soon call for bids for a 34 hectare farm adjacent to Midmar Dam at Howick. Plans are at an advanced stage for the development of 49 residential sites on the rolling green fields of Brookdale Farm.

The auction will form part of the Ian Wyles multi-property sale at the Durban Country Club on November 28 at 11am.

Situated within the proclaimed area of Midmar Dam, 5km from the N3, and within the Midmar Nature Reserve, the property is zoned “low density residential/tourism” and holds permits to develop 49 sites. A further 21 subdivisions is subject to application.

Andrew Giddy, property manager at Ian Wyles, says the farm is a stone’s throw from the shores of Midmar Dam, with only about 100m of conservation area separating it from the water.

“A new 70-residence development, Midmar Cove, was planned for the farm by its elderly owner who has now decided on retirement. With permission in hand to develop 49 sites, subdivision for the remaining 21 plots should be a formality and not involve exorbitant costs either. So, Midmar Cove, as a new residential development in one of the most attractive areas of the KZN Midlands, will be sold virtually on a plate on November 28.”

The farm has a four-bedroom house which will be sold as a vacant asset.

Midmar Dam is popular for boating, swimming, waterskiing, picnics and fishing. The annual Midmar Mile swimming race, said to be the world’s largest open-water swimming event, attracts thousands of entries every year. The next “Mile” will take place in February.
