All proceeds of the auction held on on April 4 and 5 in 2020 will benefit The Doris Day Animal Foundation, the Hollywood star’s charity founded in 1978 that funds non-profit bodies needing assistance to care for and protect animals.
On offer will be an exclusive collection of Day’s most iconic costumes and memorabilia from films and TV shows and specials, furnishings and household items from her home in California, and her most personal items, never before seen at auction.
The more than 800 lots include:
- Day’s two Golden Globe awards.
- A 1930 Ford convertible seen in her Best Friends TV show.
- A brass-embossed elephant jardinière given to her by Rock Hudson.
- Costumes and ensembles worn on The Doris Day Show on TV in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
- A yellow vase presented to her by Paul McCartney.
Julien’s Auctions and luxury ocean liner company Cunard will take the Day collection to the seas in an auction exhibition aboard the liner Queen Victoria in a voyage departing from Florida on March 17 and arriving in Southampton on March 28.
After her retirement from acting, Day lived in Carmel-by-the-Sea in California where she also co-owned a hotel called the Cypress Inn, considered one of the most pet friendly hotels in the U.S. She died on May 13 this year at the age of 97.
