The inter-Syrian dialogue and political process in Syria after the stepping down of President Bashar Assad should take place without outside interference and in Damascus, the head of the Syrian opposition's Moscow Platform, Qadri Jamil, told Sputnik.
"Now favourable conditions should appear and are in place for them [political processes] to be held in Damascus... We insist that the entire Syrian process take place without interference from any outside party. Any!" Jamil said, noting that by political process he also means organizing elections and amending the country's constitution.
He said that today the Astana format countries - Russia, Iran and Turkey - should facilitate the establishment of dialogue between all Syrian opposition groups for it to take place peacefully, smoothly and achieve its goal - the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
"After this, the Astana format will have no function, because its function was to resolve the situation in Syria. If it is resolved, then the Astana format will have fulfilled its task," Jamil said.
Syria's armed opposition captured the Syrian capital of Damascus on December 8.
Russian officials have said that Syrian President Bashar Assad stepped down as president after holding negotiations with participants of the Syrian conflict and left Syria for Russia, where he was granted asylum. Mohammed al-Bashir, who ran an Idlib-based administration formed by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and other opposition groups, was named interim prime minister on Tuesday.
