The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a severe weather warning for Thursday predicting widespread thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across several regions of the country.

According to the latest forecast, large parts of central and eastern South Africa will experience significant rainfall, with probabilities reaching 80% in areas such as the Free State, Gauteng, and parts of Mpumalanga.

Scattered showers of 60% probability are expected across the Northern Cape and eastern regions of the Eastern Cape, while a 30% probability of isolated showers are predicted for parts of Limpopo and the western sections of the Eastern Cape.

A Yellow Level 2 warning has been issued for severe thunderstorms over Gauteng, North West, and parts of the Free State. These storms may lead to heavy downpours and localised flooding.

Meanwhile, a separate Yellow Level 2 warning has been issued for disruptive rainfall in parts of KwaZulu-Natal, where flooding of roads and low-lying areas is expected.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, especially in flood-prone areas. Motorists should drive carefully as roads may become hazardous due to water accumulation.
