Cape Town - Taxi commuters in the Western Cape have been warned to find alternative transport to work on Monday as the biggest taxi association in the province is embarking on strike action.
The CATA chairpersons released a statement on Sunday night informing passengers of the strike, which they say is due to the government not replying to demands related to their business.
It is unclear how long the strike will last, but Cape commuters are sure to be hard hit as Metrorail is already struggling to provide adequate train services due to arson attacks on its trains. Arsonists have already cost Metrorail an estimated R50 million over the past four months and are believed to be targeting the motorised coaches which propel passenger trains.
The Western Cape community safety department has offered a reward of R100 000 for information which will result in the arrest and successful conviction of those responsible for torching train carriages across Cape Town.
