Mitsubishi South Africa has added some locally-developed flavour to the Pajero Sport SUV with a new Shogun Edition, which comes with an assortment of adventure-ready features..
Priced at R914,900, the Pajero Sport Shogun Limited Edition is based on the Aspire 4x4 derivative, which slots beneath the more luxurious Exceed model grade.
The Shogun name has been used locally for a number of special editions over the years. Interestingly, Shogun was the name used for the full-sized Pajero in the UK in the 1990s while versions sold in most American markets as well as Spain were known as the Montero, because Pajero apparently sounds like “w@nker” in Spanish.
But with no such politics in South Africa, Shogun equates to a special edition and in this case the Pajero Sport model is distinguished by a number of aesthetic and functional enhancements.
As with the Aspire model that it’s based on, the Shogun is available only in Jet Black or Diamond White, with a two-tone roof as well as matching black roof rails, front grille and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Additionally the Shogun features a black bonnet decal and badging.
Buyers can also look forward to special all-terrain tyres (265/60R18) featuring white lettering.
“The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is fitted with a variety of additional equipment that adds to the aesthetic, protects the vehicle and enhances its capability, while adding a degree of exclusivity” says Mitsubishi SA marketing manager Jeffrey Allison.
Other unique equipment takes the form of a black Shogun nudge bar, snorkel, side window deflectors, fender flares and Shogun rock sliders.
Power comes from the familiar 2.4-litre MIVEC turbodiesel engine that produces 133kW and 430Nm> It pairs with an eight speed automatic gearbox and Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II system with four selectable off-road modes.
Cabin features include black leather seats, with power adjustment for the driver, dual-zone climate control with rear ventilation, multi-function steering wheel, full-colour digital instrument display and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone link.
The Pajero Sport Shogun is also sold with an extended drivetrain warranty, which covers owners for five years or 100,000km (versus the usual three-year general warranty) and also part of the deal is a five-year/90,000km service plan.
