Following the launch of its CLE Coupe, Mercedes-Benz has released pricing for the open-top version of its sleek new two-door range.
The new Mercedes CLE Cabriolet is available in the same two four-cylinder variants as the tin-top, with the CLE 200 Cabriolet priced at R1,515,350 and the CLE 300 4Matic Cabriolet listed at R1,573,651.
For the record the CLE 200 Cabriolet commands a R120,000 premium over its Coupe sibling, while the price difference in the case of the CLE 300 4Matic is R143,000.
Both are powered by a 2.0-litre turbopetrol engine, tuned to 150kW and 320Nm in the CLE 200 and 190kW and 400Nm in the all-wheel drive CLE 300 4Matic.
In both, power is channelled through a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox.
The Mercedes CLE was designed to replace both the Mercedes C-Class and E-Class two-door models from the previous generations and takes a one-size-fits-all approach with its 4,850mm length and 1,861mm width.
The CLE Cabriolet boasts a boot volume of 385 litres when the fabric top is up and 295 litres when it’s down.
The interior features a freestanding 12.3-inch digital instrument display and 11.9-inch central touchscreen, which can be electrically tilted from 15 to 40 degrees when the top is down in order to minimise glare from the sun.
The multi-layer fabric soft top is available in black, red or grey. It can be opened or closed within 20 seconds, at speeds of up to 60km/h.
