Citroen has been building compact MPVs under the Picasso banner since 1999 - more than three million of them in fact, starting with the Xsara Picassos, followed by the C4 Picasso, C4 Grand Picasso and, more recently the C3 Picasso.
Now the Double Helix brand is promising a whole new era in one-box family movers, led by the Technospace concept, which will be seen in public for the first time at the Geneva motor show in March.
More importantly, Citroen say this showcase of 'Créative Technologie' points the way to the next-generation C4 Picasso, due for release in the second half of 2013.
The concept is also a runner, built on what Citroen calls the Efficient Modular Platform 2, and it's claiming a remarkably low CO2 emissions level of 98g/km, thanks to efficient architecture and weight reduction.
It's only 4430mm long, 1610mm wide and 1.83mm high, yet provides seating for five adults as well as a 537-litre boot.
The interior features a host of user-friendly high-tech, including a full-touch driving interface with a high-definition 300mm panoramic screen, which replaces most of the controls, switches and knobs on a conventional dashboard.
No pictures of the interior have been released just yet, but the exterior shots show we can expect a decidedly quirky design language when the new MPV hits the scene later this year.
