The Bowls South Africa (BSA) Masters tournament has come and gone, leaving a trail of thrilling competition, intense concentration and invaluable experience for all participants.

Among those who rose to the occasion were the talented bowlers from the Port Natal Bowls district, who acquitted themselves admirably against South Africa’s finest.

Competing on faster greens than those typically encountered on the coast, the bowlers faced an additional challenge that tested their adaptability and precision.

However, the experience gained at this elite level will undoubtedly prove beneficial in shaping their future performances.

The demanding schedule of the tournament required unwavering focus, with players needing to maintain peak concentration throughout. Those who adapted best to the high-pressure environment found themselves rewarded, and for PNB, there was reason to celebrate.

Special congratulations go to Wayne Roberts from Hillcrest Bowling Club and Keegan Bauristhene from Westville Bowling Club, who both secured bronze medals in their respective divisions.

Roberts’ stellar performance in the Men’s Open category and Bauristhene’s commendable debut showing in the Men’s Under-30 division reflect their skill, dedication and resilience.

Their achievements serve as an inspiration for aspiring players.

As the dust settles on yet another riveting edition of the BSA Masters, PNB can take pride in knowing that their representatives stood tall on the national stage.

With valuable lessons learned and confidence gained, these bowlers will undoubtedly return home stronger and even more determined to make their mark in future competitions.

The Port Natal Bowls Executive Committee for 2025 was elected at the Annual General Meeting on January 25, ushering in a blend of continuity and fresh leadership for the district.

Steve Kelf (Durban BC) was re-elected as President, while Ken Fann (Westville BC) will take on the role of Vice-President.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Donald Potts (Parkhill BC), who has stepped down from the Executive Committee after years of dedicated service, which included both President and Vice-President.

The district expresses its deep appreciation for his unwavering commitment to the betterment of bowls in the PNB district and his significant contributions to its growth.

Kelf and Fann will be supported by an experienced team of Executive Committee members, including: Trevor Vee (Durban Wanderers BC), Wade Marshall (Hillary BC), Peter Garrett (Westville CC). Nkululeko Duma (Stella Park BC), Warren Green (Berea BC) and Shaun O’Brien (New Germany BC).

With the performance of district bowlers continuing to rise, clubs will look to the newly elected Exco to sustain this upward trajectory and build on the momentum already in place.

Looking ahead, Susan Nel will oversee the Men’s and Ladies Port Natal Academy training session at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club this Saturday at 8.30am.

The introduction of new talent into these two development groups is an encouraging sign for the district, ensuring a strong pipeline of skilled bowlers for the future.

Teams of four are reminded of the long-running Bluff Men’s Tournament on March 8-9. Contact Clint Duncan on 0711476289 for entry forms.
