PRIYANKA Myeshinee Moodley is multi-faceted. Establishing herself as a make-up artist during the dark times of Covid-19, she managed to make a name for herself and get so many people passionate about her work that they now follow her with interest.
From her love for dancing to her passion for beauty, Myeshinee Moodley is a woman with many dreams and the determination to achieve them.
“As a child, I began dancing at the age of give, which sparked my passion for make-up. In Indian dance, we often used heavy make-up, and this experience ignited my interest in the beauty industry.
“Initially, I aspired to study analytical chemistry and I did for two years but my early fascination with make-up eventually guided me towards a different path which is make-up artistry and becoming a digital creator,” she said.
The 28-year-old, who was raised in Ridgeview Gardens in Cato Manor and now lives in Ballito, first went into make-up during the peak of Covid-19 when she enrolled in a six-month make-up course. Prior to that she had enjoyed doing make-up for family and friends.
“I was always passionate from a young age in drawing and painting which led to me doing creative make-up as well. This course allowed me to further explore and formalise my skills in a field I genuinely loved.
“As a make-up artist, I love to enhance natural beauty for special occasions and bridal events, ensuring that every look is tailored to the individual’s preferences. Additionally, I have a passion for creative and artistic make-up, including Halloween and themed looks, where I use my skills to create unique and imaginative designs,” she added.
Myeshinee Moodley said what she appreciates most about this industry is the opportunity for creativity and self-expression.
In 2018, she launched her own beauty brand, “Glow Up by Priyanka”, shortly after starting her make-up course, and that is when content creation also started for her.
“My social media page began as a way to share the make-up looks I created for myself, family, and friends. During the pandemic, I used the extra time to experiment with and showcase a variety of creative make-up styles. Today, ‘Glow Up by Priyanka’ offers special occasions and bridal make-up, and hair services.
“Also, being a content creator I started doing make-up tutorials that help me connect with a broader audience and stay up to date with the latest beauty trends,” said Myeshinee Moodley.
When asked what keeps her motivated, she said: “It is the opportunity to explore and innovate within my craft. The beauty industry is always evolving, which challenges me to stay current with trends and techniques.
“Additionally, the satisfaction of helping clients feel confident and beautiful drives my passion.”
In the years Moodley has been in the beauty industry, she has had the opportunity to work with some well-known brands such as Woolworths, Estee Lauder, Benefit Cosmetics and Daniel Wellington.
“Creating content is something that I love to do and am extremely passionate about. I’m looking forward to travelling and I also plan to venture into the film make-up industry, where I’m eager to apply my skills in a new and exciting way,” she said.
On what the make-up industry could be doing better or differently, Myeshinee Moodley said: “The industry could do better by providing more eco-friendly packaging. Reducing waste and minimising the environmental impact should be a priority.
“Also, expanding shade ranges and catering to a wider variety of skin tones and types can still be improved.”
