In a bold move towards a new chapter in her beauty journey, reality TV star Jojo Robinson has announced she has dissolved her facial fillers and undergone a facelift just in time for Christmas.
This decision, which she shared with her fans and followers on Instagram, marks a significant shift in her approach to cosmetic enhancements.
Robinson, who is known for her candid sharing of personal experiences, revealed that her facelift was performed by renowned plastic surgeon Dr Paul McGarr, who has previously worked on her tummy tuck and arm procedures.
On Instagram, she wrote: “I would never have trusted anyone else with this. Honestly, I have been doing filler for so many years that I just needed a more permanent solution.
“I asked the doc for a faceapp face (Hollywood 4 ) 😂😂 no more editing or filters in the future. I have a long road ahead, but best believe I'll take you along the recovery with me. I vlogged the whole experience ... Videos coming soon.”
In a follow-up post, Robinson shared a video explaining why a facelift was the right choice for her.
For the past seven years, Robinson has been loyal to fillers, a popular non-surgical option in the cosmetic world. However, she has now shared that after noticing diminishing returns from the filler treatments, she felt the urge to “hit a reset”.
“I found that the more I added, the less I was getting to the result I really wanted, and unfortunately, I wouldn't stop time. Ageing is inevitable. And filler could only take me so far,” she wrote.
The procedure was not without its challenges. Robinson bravely disclosed that she needed to dissolve much of the filler that had been a part of her look for years before the facelift could be performed.
“In order to do the facelift correctly, I had to dissolve the filler I had in my face (well, most of it) and this scared me so much because I couldn't imagine my face without it because I had done it for so long.”
The process of dissolving the filler was painful, leaving her swollen and uncomfortable.
“I will say, dissolving the filler in the face was incredibly painful. I swelled up instantly,” she recounted.
Later, she shared her groundbreaking experience of undergoing the significant surgery while staying awake.
Robinson opted for the seven-hour procedure using twilight anaesthesia, a technique involving the administration of sleeping tablets via an IV while keeping the area numb.
This choice stemmed from her concerns about the taxing nature of being under general anaesthesia for extended periods.
“Personally I battle after general anesthesia,” she wrote.
This choice not only spared her the usual side effects associated with general anaesthesia but also provided substantial cost savings.
Her surgery costs amounted to R113 000 under twilight anaesthesia, which is R67 000 less than the R180 000 it would have cost under general anaesthesia.
Robinson also expressed her gratitude to her surgeon.
“He has created my entire body for me and I wouldn’t trust anyone else with my face.”
