Media personality Lasizwe Dambuza recently aired another episode of his “Awkward Dates”, and Economic Freedom Fighter president Julius Malema was in the hot seat.
“Awkward Dates” is a hilarious YouTube dating show where Dambuza goes on blind dates with various celebrities. It’s unscripted, unpredictable and filled with awkward moments.
Dambuza’s date with Malema started with formal introductions and as the conversation went on, Juju mentioned interesting facts about him.
For example, he said that since it’s December and most people will be going to holiday destinations, including Cape Town, he will be going to his childhood home in Seshego, Polokwane, as per tradition.
He also mentioned that he doesn’t like too much food like a buffet because it overwhelms him. And while he doesn’t like baked beans and wors, he’s a sucker for goat meat.
And when asked about regularly checking his phone, Malema said: “I have to check my phone because I work. Politicians don’t sleep. As we are sleeping, the US is up, China is up.”
In terms of self-care, Juju does go to the spa, but not that often.
“The most romantic thing I’ve ever done was when I got on one knee, asking my wife to marry me, there’s no romance bigger than that.”
Since it was an awkward date, there were a lot of awkward moments and one of our favourites was when Dambuza attempted to speak Sepedi by calling Juju “murandziwa waka”, meaning “my love” in Venda.
Malema quickly corrected him and told him to find a lover who is Pedi since the language is “sexually transmitted”.
The date happened during working hours and Malema ordered water while Dambuza sipped on a margarita.
“I’m still at work, from here I’m rushing somewhere. I’m actually rushing to the office,” Malema said.
Most people who follow both Dambuza and Malema said they enjoyed the episode and how chilled Juju was throughout the date.
“What a beautiful date! I was smiling and laughing throughout. I love how effortless this felt & seemed. Lasizwe nailed this awkward date w/ CiC Julius Sello Malema,” said @bhutmalumzwrote
Another X user, @MakukuleZamo, said: “I’m watching Lasizwe’s awkward date with Julius Malema. I haven’t laughed like this in a while. The guy is charismatic I’m seeing a different side to him. Well, I’m not into politics but you get me. He’s very funny.”
