In a heartfelt message to her fans, Colombian superstar Shakira expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming outpouring of love and support she received following her recent hospitalisation.

The 48-year-old icon took to her social media platforms to reassure her devoted followers about her health after an emergency left many concerned.

On Saturday, February 15, moments after arriving in Peru, Shakira shared videos of hundreds of excited fans welcoming her at the airport.

However, she was forced to cancel her much-anticipated performance in Lima, her first show in over a decade in the country.

“I'm sorry to let you all know that last night I had to go to the emergency room for an abdominal issue, and I'm currently hospitalised,” she communicated in a statement.

Despite facing this health scare, Shakira expressed her heartfelt thanks to her fans shortly after announcing the cancellation. “Thank you for all your loving messages. You give me so much strength. I love you with all my heart,” she wrote.

The singer had been slated to perform on Sunday and Monday, which added to the disappointment among her supporters.

Earlier, she had shared her emotional state, revealing how “deeply sorry” she felt for not taking the stage.

“I am very sad that I will not be able to take the stage today. I have been deeply emotional and excited about reuniting with my beloved Peruvian audience,” she expressed, adding her hopes for a speedy recovery.

“I hope to be released and well tomorrow so I can perform.”

Shakira reassured fans that her team was already at work, diligently planning a new concert date.

Peru marks the second stop on her tour, promoting her latest album, “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran”.

This album, which earned the accolade of Best Latin Pop Album at the 2025 Grammy Awards, is significant for Shakira, as it is her first release after her highly publicised split from former professional footballer Gerard Piqué.

During her Grammy acceptance speech, Shakira took a moment to acknowledge her roots and dedicate her award to her “immigrant brothers and sisters”.

Her passionate words resonated with many: “You are loved, you are worth it, and I will always fight with you. To all of those women who work really hard every day to provide for their families, you are true. So this is for you too.”
