Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club has found themselves at the centre of a serious investigation following allegations of improper conduct against head coach Jerry Tshabalala.
The club announced that various players have come forward with claims that could have grave implications for both the coach and the esteemed club. Responding to the allegations, Sundowns confirmed in a statement that Tshabalala has been placed on special leave with immediate effect whilst the renowned law firm Bowmans conducts a thorough investigation.
The club expressed its commitment to addressing these serious allegations with the utmost gravity.
“The board of Mamelodi Sundowns has been made aware of allegations of improper conduct that have been made by various women players against the coach,” the statement read.
“The club views these allegations in a very serious light and has appointed Bowmans to investigate these claims and report back to the board as soon as possible.”
The statement further elaborated that this decision for special leave is not intended to pre-empt the investigation's findings but rather to facilitate a focused process that ensures all parties' rights are protected.
Tshabalala, who took the helm of the Sundowns Ladies team in 2012, has enjoyed significant success during his tenure, including two victories in a CAF Women’s Champions League.
In 2021, He was also named coach of the year at the Hollywoodbets Super League awards after another stellar domestic campaign with the Brazilian Ladies.
Tshabalala is the first coach to win two CAF Champions League title and his remarkable achievements have made him a celebrated figure within the club, but the recent allegations cast a shadow over his legacy.
