THE Ministry of Police led by Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has thrown its weight behind the march against the illegal foreigners happening in Durban today.
The march is organised by the prominent on-air personality of the uMhlanga-based Vuma FM, Jacinta Zuma, in a bid to curb influx of illegal foreigners.
In a statement released on Monday, the Mchunu said: "As a government, we remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of all South Africans, and we understand that immigration challenges, particularly involving individuals without legal status, have serious implications for our national security and public safety."
Mchunu remarked that It is essential to "recognise that those who enter our country unlawfully may contribute to increased criminal activity, which puts a strain on law enforcement and the well-being of citizens."
He added: "The march is a call for enhanced vigilance and action from the relevant authorities to address illegal immigration and ensure that those who violate the law are held accountable."
While he supports the march, Mchunu cautioned that participants to do so peacefully and without violence.
"The safety of all citizens, regardless of their nationality, is our priority, and we encourage all concerned individuals and communities to continue engaging with law enforcement in a constructive manner," said Mchunu.
He vowed that South African Police Service (SAPS) will continue to ramp up its efforts to protect all South Africans and ensure that the rule of law is upheld.
"We will work collaboratively with immigration authorities and all relevant partners to address the root causes of illegal immigration and its associated risks" he said.
