Vehicle stolen in Newlands recovered a year later; two suspects arrested for hijacking motorist in same area

Durban - Private security company PT Alarms recovered a vehicle that was stolen a year ago.

In a Facebook post on Monday, PT Alarms said they recovered the stolen Toyota Tazz at a panelbeater in uMlazi, south of Durban, a year after it was stolen in the Newlands area, north of Durban.

Information was circulated to be on the look out as the vehicle was believed to be in uMlazi.

“PT Tactical Tracker unit and Tracker Connect members combed the area section by section. The vehicle was later recovered by the members including uMlazi Metro Police U1B in C section uMlazi at a local panel beater's residence,” PT Alarms said.

Meanwhile, at the weekend Marshall Security apprehended two men 20 minutes after they allegedly held up a Newlands motorist.

Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell said on Sunday afternoon after 4pm, members of their Special Operations Team were activated to assist Cartrack with locating a silver Toyota Etios that had been hijacked. Two suspects, one armed with a firearm, had hijacked a motorist in the Newlands area.

“Our members immediately responded to the last known location of the vehicle. While en route, the Etios was spotted in Siyanda and the suspects were immediately arrested by members of our Special Operations Team, Cartrack ground team and members from the Phoenix Trio Crime Unit. One of the suspects was in possession of a replica firearm that was used during the hijacking,” Powell said.

Police had not commented by the time of publication.
