DURBAN - Two men are expected to appear before the Durban Magistrates Court on Monday after police arrested them for being in possession of stolen property and the unlawful possession of a firearm.
Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said the men, aged 23 and 24, were arrested by Durban Central police officers in the Durban city centre on Sunday.
Gwala said while Durban Central police officers were conducting foot patrols in the city, as part of crime prevention duties, when they were alerted about a robbery that occurred at Medwood Gardens, where a woman was robbed of her weave and cellphone.
“The police officers swiftly reacted and searched for the suspects after being given the description of the men. The police officers spotted the two suspects, and they gave chase,” said Gwala.
“The suspects were caught, and upon searching them, police found a cellphone and a weave which belonged to the victim. The suspects were also found in possession of a firearm. The recovered firearm will be subjected to ballistic testing.”
