DURBAN - Parrots at a parrot farm survived the fangs of a green mamba that had already eaten two rats and lying lazily on the floor of an aviary.
KwaZulu-Natal South Coast snake catcher Sarel van der Merwe said he had received a call from the farm about a green mamba that had eaten something and was lying on the floor of the aviary.
Van der Merwe said he arrived at the parrot farm to find that the mamba was “just lying on the floor with a fat belly”.
“Looks as if he had eaten a big rat and a small rat for lunch and with that, he was too fat to get out of the aviary,” Van der Merwe said.
“His belly was too big to get out so he was just relaxing.”
He said it was an easy catch for him because the snake was in an enclosed space and it was too full.
He said there were always rats running around if there were parrots around.
“All the birds were fine,” Van der Merwe said.
