DURBAN - A man was found dead with multiple defence wounds in Durban on Sunday.

Metro Police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Parboo Sewpersad said members of metro police search and rescue were travelling to their headquarters when they were stopped by other metro police officers seeking assistance in Old Fort Gardens.

Sewpersad said the SAPS were also in attendance when metro police search and rescue entered the gardens and discovered the body of an Indian man who appeared to have been murdered.

“The victim had multiple defense wounds and a large penetrating wound to the left leg which would have caused massive blood loss,” Sewpersad said.

He said the man was declared dead and the scene was handed over to the SAPS. A murder docket was opened.

Later that day, members of the search and rescue team were called out to the vicinity of the Connaught Bridge where they found a man with deep tissue burns over roughly 80% of his body. Together with the fire department, members were able to cover most of the burns while awaiting the arrival of emergency services.

Sewpersad commended the search and rescue members for the work they do.

“They are unsung heroes of metro police,” he said.
